What was the paper about?
The article discusses how Facebook plans to battle fake news, which appeared to be a significant issue during the 2016 USA presidential election, by working with third party fact checking organisations like organizations like Snopes, Factcheck.org, and Politifact.
In 2016, 44 per cent of US adults told pollsters they got news from Facebook, compared to 9 per cent from twitter and 2 per cent from Reddit.
Traditionally facebook hasn't taken responsibility for validating news, stating that it was a technology company rather than a media company, and not interested in making editorial decisions. But, with an ever increasing share of attention of its users time, and the issues of fake news apparent during the 2016 US elections, facebook now intends to take steps to try to reduce fake news, or at least de-prioritise it.
