After just setting up an ad-hoc shiny app to share a dashboard over our intranet, its worth noting down the tricks with getting it going.
Firstly, i'm pulling data from an Oracle database and ran into some 32 v 64 bit Oracle driver Rstudio incompatibility issues with the unhelpful error of:
Error in .Call(C_RODBCFetchRows, attr(channel, "handle_ptr"), max, buffsize, : negative length vectors are not allowed
Rather than battle with figuring out which drivers were missing, I stumbled upon a stack overflow post which suggested setting "Try
believeNRows=FALSE" in the odbcconnect function.
And it worked!!!
Next was to get the shiny server visible from the intranet.
The easiest way to do this was to run the app from the Rstudio console, instead of clicking the "Run app" button, using:
I unblocked the port in the window server firewall as well.
Finished product, a simple quick shiny dashbaord.
