This morning, as I removed even more trees and tree-stumps from the garden, I listed to episode #21 of Cortex with imyke and CPG Grey.
In this episode they talked about a few things, one of which was a book called The E-Myth revisited. The 'E' in e-myth refers to entrepreneurship.
A couple of interesting points from the podcast:
- when a founder starts a company they are usually in the technical stage or their career and fill that role in the new company. But, at some stage they need to start thinking about management as there are a lot of things a company needs to function in addition to technical skills
- for any company, especially if it is only a couple of people, an org-chart should be drawn up, all roles which may exist for a large company created (e.g. VP marketing, VP sales etc) and these roles assigned to a particular person working on the company. Even if the company is only two people, it should be clear which roles each person is responsible for.
Apparently it's not worth investing the time reading the book, or listening to the audio book.
